PERMANENT TATTOO REMOVAL IN PUNE
What are the various treatments options for permanent tattoo removal?
Treatment options for tattoo removal include the following:
Laser tattoo removal Removing tattoos using lasers is the quickest, safest, and most effective method. It involves exposing the inked skin to a beam of laser light. Depending on the color of the tattoo, specific wavelengths of light are concentrated on the inked skin. The light gets absorbed and breaks the pigment into small particles later filtered out from the body biologically. This technique can easily remove blue and black colors. Other colors may need more than one session, but it is possible to fade them entirely in the end.
IPL IPL (Intense pulsed light/radiofrequency) treatment involves the use of infrared waves focused on the target area of the skin to break down the pigments present in the tattoo. This process is suitable for bigger tattoos as it uses larger light pulses. However, IPL treatment is not used for dark-skinned individuals because sometimes it may result in hyperpigmentation.
Cryosurgery Cryosurgery involves introducing liquid nitrogen to the skin containing the tattoo, after which a specific light is introduced that peels the skin and lightens the tattoo. After repeating this process multiple times, the tattoo is faded eventually. However, this type of technique is not effective on yellow and green pigments.
Plastic surgery This invasive technique is generally used to remove small tattoos. In this process, skin grafting is done to cover the tattoo. A thin skin layer is removed from a healthy part of the body and is transplanted over the inked area.
Dermabrasion Dermabrasion involves the use of a mechanical grinding tool to remove the superficial layers. This tool pierces the inked skin to stimulate new skin cell growth, eliminating the inked skin layer.
Saline Tattoo Removal This technique involves exposing the skin to a salt solution and healing with the formed scab. Lightening of the tattoo takes place after the scab falls off. This treatment is done under anesthesia and requires multiple treatments.
Other treatment methods such as Salabrasion and Chemical peel treatments can also be used, but they are inefficient and may also cause pain. Makeup can also be done to hide the tattoo, but that is not a permanent solution.
What are the factors that determine the speed of tattoo removal?
Generally, it takes six to eight weeks to erase a tattoo completely. However, the timeline of this treatment largely varies from person to person depending on some factors, which are as follows;
- Location of the tattoo
- Colors of the ink
- Age of the tattoo
- Vividness of tattoo
- Skin type of the patient
- Tattoo layering
